Dover-Ramsgate:Goodwin sands,B2,ramsgate inner -outer harbour, dover marina bridge.Few of the things you ve got to deal with when sailing in this area. Also lightship outside sandwich.Have sailed with fog twice, entering ramsgate .This experience later proved usefull in northern france, but we ll talk about this when time comes.Got aquainted with fog sirens, bells, lights .and you had to take care to enter at high tide in ramsgate ,or else....so in all a good starting point for me.
Ramsgate -Boulogne sur mer:welcoming port ,easy to enter at night.passing the channel is a aseparate chapter alltogether ,an experience, not many sailors have.I do.:)
Most dangerous thing the restaurants in boulogne ,after dark....shit food in my view.but a great fishermans club in the port, friendly people, exchanged t shirts, drunk pernod.nice
Boulogne-Diepe:easy.diepe lovely, market ,near the port.nice walks in the town.
Fecamp -quistreham:Ah the river.quistreham ,the place i almost ended up my sailing ,lovely quite .and french.really nice life there, styed 2 weeks .didnt want to leave .
quistreham-st vaast la hougue:entery within high tide, first time i anchored to wait.new experience.met dutch sailors going south too.the port nice, fishing port ,food brilliant.
st.vaast -cherbourg :tides and currents at point de barfleur really strong.fantastic .arrival in a big port like cherbourg.wow.i have raz de cap levi ahead, and more to come....
alderney race, little russel,st peter port in guernsey.....if you havent done it you dont know what i m talking about.6 knots currents,if you get it wrong you are dead.
guernsey-lezardieux.try entering lezardieux in night .i did.never again.rope around the prop in a river with 3 knots current is not nice trust me.in the morning the port master didnt want to believe i arrived at night...:)mesie thats impossible...noone has done it before...the fucken greek sailor did it !!!pussies!
then on to Aberwrac'h a place only known to sailors who dare.entering port under force 7 with 2 reefs.and had to anchor outside to wait for tide.and the marina was 2 pontoons ,one broken, the only empty space on the broken one.i stayed a few days ,met the sailors in the club nautic, circumnavigators mostly.ah the french sailors...!nice!isle de quessant ,is ahead,if i want to go to camare....
i did.camare ,nice.races all around .if you dont know how to do it ,its not the place to learn....:)
from here on its only south!!!!yeah!
